Dear Alumni and Esteemed Colleagues,
Higher education is not only about academic excellence but also social justice, providing opportunities for individuals to improve their lives and ensuring equitable access to education. Each year, our school welcomes nearly 1,000 students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, many of whom face significant challenges. These students work hard to overcome their circumstances, and it is our duty to support them throughout their academic journey.
The Ministry of Education is exploring partnerships with businesses and the public to provide resources for disadvantaged students through initiatives like counseling, special funds, and new learning methods. Our school is similarly committed to creating a supportive environment where these students can thrive and take charge of their futures. Our collective efforts can make a transformative impact, enabling these students to achieve their potential and contribute meaningfully to society. We warmly ask our beloved alumni and kind-hearted members of our community to consider supporting financially disadvantaged students at our school. Your generosity can truly change their lives and open doors to a brighter future.
Here are two examples of students benefiting from the 2024 Higher Education SPROUT Project:
Mr. Weng, from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, grew up in a financially struggling family. After his father’s accident, his mother’s work at a fungus farm became their main source of income. Through various counseling programs, Weng excelled academically, ranking top in his department. He actively participated in leadership roles, including as president of the Talkbar Club and member of the varsity tennis team. Now pursuing advanced studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering while also studying law, Weng aspires to support his family and contribute to society.
Hung, a student in the Department of Dentistry, faced economic hardships after his father ceased alimony payments and his mother had to leave her job. Through programs like "Learning at Ease" and "Academic Advancement," Hung maintained academic focus, gaining confidence and stability. He is on track to become a dentist, eager to serve his community and give back to his village.
