Hakka Week at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University exhibits the invaluable history of Hakka cultural artifacts

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University's Hakka Cultural College held a series of activities for Hakka Week today (24th) at the library. This year, the activities included the unveiling ceremony of the "Uematsu Library" and a special exhibition of ancient artifacts from the Liu family in Qionglin. These events showcased the research achievements in local culture and history. The Council for Hakka Affairs also expressed interest in collaborating with the Hakka Cultural College to preserve valuable local data.

"The unveiling ceremony of the Uematsu Library begins. Please unveil it!"

The Hakka Cultural College of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University received materials from the family of Japanese scholar Uematsu Meiseki, who conducted field investigations in the Hakka regions such as Xinpu, Hsinchu County. After six years of organization and categorization, the "Uematsu Library" was established as a reference for future research.

"This bronze gong was made in the 50th year of the Qianlong reign. At that time, Taiwan established officials in Tungluo."

On the other hand, at the special exhibition of ancient artifacts from the Liu family in Qionglin, representatives of the Liu family introduced the collection of ancient books and artifacts to Vice Chairman Zhou Jiangjie of the Council for Hakka Affairs and others. In order to properly preserve these artifacts, the Liu family discussed with the Hakka College to store the related items.

Representative of the Liu family, Liu Mingyang: "We are unable to maintain the preserved items, so we discussed with President Huang of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to see if it is possible to store them in the school and provide them for research by students."

Vice Chairman Zhou Jiangjie of the Council for Hakka Affairs: "National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University can allow interested individuals to understand local affairs through the local data and artifacts. In the future, the Council for Hakka Affairs will have opportunities for collaboration with our academic community, our Hakka Cultural College Dean, and our professors."

The Hakka College of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University has been organizing Hakka Week activities for 17 years, adopting the concept of an "OPEN HOUSE" and opening its doors for public visits, hoping to bridge the gap between the college and the community residents.

Dean of the Hakka Cultural College, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Chien Mei-Ling: "Academic research and practical application in the community can be demonstrated in this way, similar to an OPEN HOUSE concept. So, we are also open to friends from the nearby community to participate. This Hakka Week is considered quite important."

The Hakka College stated that the special exhibition of ancient artifacts from the Liu family in Qionglin will be open to the public until July 24th. They welcome those who are interested in Hakka history and culture to visit, and they hope to invite community groups to participate in performances next year to make Hakka Week even more grand.
