On July 4th, 2022, Professor Chia-ling Lynn Ho from the Department of Communication Arts at Valdosta State University in the United States visited the College of Hakka Studies at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. Deputy Dean of the college, Mei-Ling Chien, Professors J. Sonia Huang, and Rebecca Ping Yu received her. Professor Ho earned her doctorate degree from the University of California, Davis, and her studies are primarily concerned with interpersonal communication, human-computer interaction (HCI), health communication, and cross-cultural communication. Professor Ho mentioned that because students at Valdosta State are interested in Asian cultures, she contacted the College of Hakka Studies to see whether there is any opportunity for collaboration.
Starting from the field of communication, Professor Ho expressed interests in collaboration with the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Communication and Technology at the College of Hakka Studies as she thought that the two Universities are well-suited for working together in terms of research and courses. Additionally, Valdosta State University also has a College of Humanities. The geographical environment and location of the university are of great help to nurture humanities studies. Deputy Dean of the college, Mei-Ling Chien has high expectations for the collaboration between the two schools in the future as well. After further discussion, it’s hoped that the two schools will have the opportunity to sign higher level exchange agreements, which can better benefit academic exchange between the faculty and students of the two schools.
