The journal “Global Hakka Studies” published by the College of Hakka Studies at National Chiao Tung University was awarded the first prize in anthropology and the second prize in area studies and geography of “The Most Influential Humanities and Social Science Journal Award” of National Central Library, which is the only journal winning in two fields this year.
The chief editor of “Global Hakka Studies”, Dean Wei-An Chang, said that the journal has existed for less than three years since the first issue was published in November 2013. It is not only the youngest in all the existing Hakka studies journals in Taiwan but also the newest journal related to anthropology and ethnic studies. Because such a young journal has won such an honor, we need to appreciate every author, members of the editorial board, executive editors, assistant editors, and other teams for their efforts to admire and encourage the efforts of our school concerning the Hakka knowledge system. In the fields of anthropology and ethnic studies in Taiwan, “Global Hakka Studies” was also the first journal where the paper edition, electric edition, and e-book edition were published at the same time, and it has earned a lot of domestic and foreign responses since being published.
National Central Library held “Awarding Ceremony for The Most Influential Academic Resources in Taiwan” on the 18th of March 2016, and “The Most Influential Humanities and Social Science Journal Award”, “The Most Popular Academic Journal Award”, “The Best Scholarly Communication Award”, “The Best Academic Repository Award”, “The Best Academic Publicity”, “Knowledge Share Award”, and “Academic Influence Award” were awarded in the ceremony to honor the 42 public and private universities, technological and vocational schools, and publishers of academic journals in Taiwan in order to be the learning model of every community.
National Central Library used the big data in the “National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertation in Taiwan ”and “Taiwan Citation Index - Humanities and Social Sciences” for the first time this year to calculate the most influential academic resources and award the winner, expecting to encourage every community to keep improving the quality of academic studies by doing so and to support the open access of academic resources in order to improve the visibility of outstanding results of academic studies.
For the Most Influential Humanities and Social Science Journal Award, National Central Library used the data in the “Taiwan Citation Index - Humanities and Social Sciences” to calculate the impact factor of every journal based on the cited times, and disclosed the top 3 cited journals in respectively comprehensive education, literature, linguistics, history, philosophy / religious studies, anthropology, education, psychology, law, politics, economics, sociology, communication , area studies and geography, art, business administration, physical education, and library and information science.
National Central Library indicated that the high quality reference materials given by every academic studies and publishers have a great contribution to the soft power, the competitiveness, or the R&D environment of Taiwan through the “National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertation in Taiwan” of National Central Library. Therefore, National Central Library hopes everyone to keep supporting knowledge share to improve the academic visibility and influence of Taiwan!
